Whispers vs. Shouts
“It is better to listen to your body when it’s whispering than when it is shouting.”
A coach of mine shared this advice with me years ago, and I repeat it often to my athletes.
This is smart guidance for any athlete working through aches and pains: take a day off and ice that nagging spot (whisper) in your knee now while it’s just annoying, rather than addressing it only when it forces you off the bike (shouting).
But, this advice also applies to your mental game and motivation. Find yourself dragging your feet registering for a race or making excuses before hard workouts? Those are whispers, too, and deserve your attention.
