This, Not That
British cycling power-house, Team Sky, popularized the pursuit of small, continual improvements as part of their team ethos.
The idea is that you can become a faster cyclist by focusing on little improvements in a number of areas – the aggregation of marginal gains.
That’s not a bad approach. Save a few watts with the latest chain wax, pick up a couple of points on you VO2max by sitting in the sauna, that kind of thing.
But, forget about it. Seriously.
Stop chasing little gains and perfect the basics instead: sleep, fueling, and consistency in training.
Narrow your focus, improve your process, and your gains will be far from marginal.
See you next time for more cycling value in under a minute.
Yours in speed,
Steve
